Voicemail Scripts That Actually Get Callbacks in Insurance Sales

Most voicemails get deleted instantly. These scripts are designed to create enough curiosity to earn a callback.

In insurance prospecting, you'll hit voicemail about 80% of the time. Most producers either don't leave a message or leave one so long and generic that it gets deleted before it ends. The goal of a voicemail isn't to sell — it's to create just enough curiosity that the prospect calls you back or recognizes your name when you follow up via email.

The best voicemail formula for insurance sales is: your name, one sentence of context, a curiosity hook, and your phone number. Keep it under 20 seconds. Here's an example: "Hi [Name], this is [Your Name] with [Agency]. I was looking at a few [industry] businesses in [area] and noticed something about how they're handling their commercial coverage that could be costing them significantly. Give me a call back at [number] when you get a chance. Again, that's [Your Name], [number]." The curiosity hook — "noticed something" — is vague enough to create interest without being misleading.

Another effective approach for construction and manufacturing prospects: "Hi [Name], this is [Your Name]. I just wrapped up a review for another [industry] company in [area] and found they were overclassified on their workers comp, which was costing them about $40,000 a year. Wondering if the same might apply to [Company Name]. Call me back at [number] if you'd like me to take a quick look." This script works because it leads with a specific, dollar-amount result for a similar business, which is extremely compelling for business owners.

For best results, pair your voicemail with an immediate follow-up email. Send the email within five minutes of leaving the voicemail with a subject line like "Just left you a voicemail — [Your Name]." In the email, briefly reference the voicemail and provide a bit more detail. This multi-channel touch significantly increases your response rate. Track which voicemail scripts generate the most callbacks and double down on what works. Most producers find that voicemails focused on specific dollar savings or risk gaps outperform generic "I'd love to review your coverage" messages by a wide margin.
